I heard Twilight is amazing. I hope you enjoy it. :]
I finished Choke a day or two ago, and I'm now reading "Sellevision" by Augusten Burroughs in place of it.

I logged on to the internet and my home page had a link to the "Most ridiculous British laws". Are these really true

Most ridiculous British law:

1. It is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament (27 percent)

2. It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British monarch upside-down (seven percent)

3. In Liverpool, it is illegal for a woman to be topless except as a clerk in a tropical fish store (six percent)

4. Mince pies cannot be eaten on Christmas Day (five percent)

5. In Scotland, if someone knocks on your door and requires the use of your toilet, you must let them enter (four percent)

6. A pregnant woman can legally relieve herself anywhere she wants, including in a policeman's helmet (four percent)

7. The head of any dead whale found on the British coast automatically becomes the property of the king, and the tail of the queen (3.5 percent)

8. It is illegal to avoid telling the tax man anything you do not want him to know, but legal not to tell him information you do not mind him knowing (three percent)

9. It is illegal to enter the Houses of Parliament in a suit of armour (three percent)

10. In the city of York it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow (two percent)

Hi Emma!
I read the Diana Gabaldon book "Cross Stitch" which I thought was good but it didn't inspire me enough to continue to read the rest of the books in the series.
I liked the idea of going back in time with alot of medical knowledge, but perhaps during the time of the 'witch hunts' isn't ideal...yikes!

Has anyone else read "Love In the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel García Márquez and if so, why do people rave about it?
What am I missing here? I think it is long winded and over rated. An old friend years ago recommended it & said it was one of the greatest love stories ever written....gahhh...I hate it. I bought it about 6 years ago and this is my 3rd attempt at reading it through. In fact I'm embarassed to admit that I have read 2 books in the last couple of weeks INSTEAD of continuing to read this novel.

This is what happened when I tried to read "The Life of Pi" & "The God of Small Things", both "Booker Prize" winners...I keep them on my shelf so that I look really smart, LOL!

A dutch book called "the twins", its about two old ladies who are twins, but havent seen each other for 70 years, the last time they saw each other was in the second world war. When they were six they lived together in Cologne (Germany), but then their father died and one of them moved to the Netherlands and the other stayed in Germany. Im on page 358 of the book, 100 pages to go..

"Call After Midnight" by Tess Gerritsen.

It's about a lady who is told her husband has been killed and then finds out he was a spy and married to someone else.!! And he is not dead!! People are trying to kill her because they think she knows more than she does. She is on the run at the moment in Berlin.

I do like reading crime thrillers although this has turned out to be more espionage than crime thriller so far.

I like reading James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell and Agatha Christie books mainly. Trouble is I am up to date on them all at the moment thanks to Christmas presents.
