This gig from the early days of James' career deserves to be a little better documented, especially because his name appears on their wall of fame.

https://www.rubysessions.com

The Ruby Sessions is an acoustic music club held weekly every Tuesday, in the intimate setting of Doyle's of College Street for the past 19 years. Four original acts play a stripped back set in front of a completely silent candlelit room each week.

Since it's inception on April 13th 1999 the Rubys (as it's affectionately called by it's founders Niall Muckian and Conor Donovan), has hosted some of the world's biggest names, along with consistently championing the best in new and emerging talent from around the globe.

Here are just some of the artists who have graced the now legendary stage:
Ed Sheeran, Paulo Nutini, Mumford & Sons, Damien Rice, Glen Hansard, George Ezra, Kodaline, Paul Brady, James Blunt, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Hozier, Jack L, Gabrielle Aplin, Liam O'Maonlai, The Corrs, Lisa Hannigan, David Kitt, Nizlopi, James Vincent McMorrow, Emm Gryner, Little Green Cars, BellX1, Cathy Davey, Villagers, Kila, Damien Dempsey, The Coronas, Billy Steinberg, Mick Pyro, Wallis Bird, Mundy, Donal Lunny, Paddy Casey, Tom Baxter, The Frames, Frightened Rabbit, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Joshua Radin, Joe Elliot (Def Leppard), Dermot Kennedy, Gemma Hayes, Gavin James, Picture This, Declan O'Rourke, Frank Turner, Hudson Taylor, Matthew Santos + many many more...

A bit of history, published in 2017. Unfortunately, there's no video or picture of James available online.

The Ruby Sessions wall of fame is an impressive collection of musicians.

Occasionally there’s a massive queue running around the outside walls of Doyle’s pub on College Street, wrapping itself around to Fleet Street and down the road. Passers by wonder what could be going on inside. Often times it’s because some of the most famous musicians in the world are playing upstairs for the weekly Ruby Sessions.

Some musicians played here before they were famous or when they were ascendant in the music industry, but frequently it’s the case that high profile acts will come here secretly to play a show when they’re in town for a bigger gig in the Three arena, Vicar Street, or even Croke Park.

It’s become an institution since its establishment in 1999 and has been raising money for the Dublin Simon community for years now.

A wall of fame was erected recently to show just how many high profile acts have played here. The names include Damien Rice, Ed Sheeran, Glen Hansard, Hozier, James Blunt, Lisa Hannigan, Damien Dempsey, and James Vincent McMorrow.

Ed Sheeran put on quite a show here 2 years ago, and luckily, The Ruby Sessions record some of each gig.

You can look through all the Ruby Sessions video archive through this link.
