Wonderful news to end the year! I'm happy for James to have the opportunity to try a new challenge.

MOVIE BLUNT MAN
Singer James Blunt lands film role alongside Stephen Fry, Steve Coogan and David Mitchell

Former Army officer James will play a role in Greed, satire about the super-rich from director Michael Winterbottom

From Simon Boyle's Bizarre Column (The Sun)
28th December 2018

HE’S ex-Army and has topped the charts, but Captain James Blunt now has another role to add to his CV.

He has bagged his first film role, alongside funnymen David Mitchell, Steve Cooganand Stephen Fry in Greed, a satire about the super-rich from director Michael Winterbottom.

Last month James shot scenes at London’s Chiltern Firehouse restaurant for the project, which also stars Isla Fisher and features a cameo role from Made In Chelsea’s Ollie Locke.

An insider said: “James has released five albums now, so he has been more than happy to take on a new challenge.

He is known for his self- deprecating sense of humour, especially with his witty remarks on Twitter, so he jumped at the chance to star in a comedy.”

The movie was originally set to have Sacha Baron Cohen playing the main character but the Borat actor has since dropped out.

Greed is yet to get a release date but it is expected to hit cinema screens late next year.

Alan Partridge actor Steve and 24 Hour Party People director Michael are long-term collaborators, most recently on The Trip To Spain, which also starred Rob Brydon and was shown as a six-parter on Sky Atlantic in 2017.

James has already bagged two Brits — maybe now he’ll add a Bafta to his haul.

This was published earlier when James' name had not been divulged yet.

First look at Steve Coogan in Michael Winterbottom's 'Greed'; production wraps

Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP) and Film4 have wrapped production on Greed, a satire from Michael Winterbottom starring Steve Coogan, Isla Fisher and David Mitchell.

First images of Coogan in the film have been released. Set in the celebrity-heavy world of luxury fashion, the film follows the build-up to the 60th birthday party of a retail billionaire on the Greek island of Mykonos.

Newly announced cast members include Sophie Cookson, Shirley Henderson, Asa Butterfield, Sarah Solemani, Shanina Shaik, Dinita Gohil, Asim Chaudhry, Pearl Mackie, Jonny Sweet, Ollie Locke and Stephen Fry.

Sacha Baron Cohen was previously announced in the lead role when the project was first called Greed. He was replaced by Coogan on the project, and that title has now been confirmed.

Winterbottom co-wrote the film with Veep and The Thick Of It writer Sean Gray. Producers are Melissa Parmenter (Coogan’s The Trip film and series) for Revolution Films and DJ Films’ Damian Jones.

SPIP will release the film worldwide in late 2019.

Greed marks the latest collaboration between Coogan and Winterbottom, with the pair working together on the improvised The Trip comedy series and film. They have previously worked together on entertainment biopics 24 Hour Party People and The Look Of Love.

Film4 also worked with Winterbottom on both those titles; Greed is their sixth collaboration with the director.

Laine Kline and Luke Scrase are overseeing the title for SPIP, with Daniel Battsek and Ollie Madden for Film4.

The Daily Mail has taken up the news from The Sun. They have contacted a representative of James for comment, obviously without success. Includes nice recent pictures.

Hi jbfan and a Happy New Year to you!

This sounds like an interesting diversion for James. I hope it turns out well and we can get to see the results at some point. Could be a great new career for James which I would love to see, just as long as he doesn't give up the singing!
