Hi Monknfud -

He did signings after his set at both Toronto gigs and at the Buffalo gig I just got home from, so yes... as best I can tell that is the plan for this tour.

At both the Toronto gigs and at the Buffalo gig, he was still signing things well into Ed Sheeran's set, so keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to join the line-up.

And now my "Buffalo review". First, it's about a 3 hour drive from Toronto to Buffalo - with some detours and the joys of summer highway construction it took us closer to 4 hours this time around. I was joined by a dear friend of the family who is a big Ed Sheeran fan (she first saw him back in 2010 when he was the opener for what was then a big-name band at a special awards ceremony and knew immediately that he was going to be famous some day). So en route we listened to a [perfectly legal since I already bought all the music] compilation of the setlist for the show - both James and Ed.

Well. James went over really really big with the Buffalo crowd. Again, an amazing support act, and Ed's lucky to have him warming up the audience. After James's set, there was lots of chattering about how really good he was, and what a great performance he had put in, packing in so much excitement in just 40 minutes. The audience members I could hear really enjoyed the set, and commented that he was a great live performer. In other words, they discovered what we already knew. Indeed, so did my companion for the evening - she said she was really pleasantly surprised at how much she enjoyed James's set, and said it was hands-down the best support act she'd ever seen. Given she goes to about 15-20 concerts a year, I'm going to take her at her word on this.

In less-related news, Ed's set was significantly more energetic tonight than the one I caught in Toronto. I think I'll put the Toronto show down to too much publicity work during the day. (Plus, it was largely an American crowd, which tends to be more enthusiastic than the Toronto ones.)

A good time was had by all. And I learned several new routes to avoid construction....

Thank you Thank you Annec. Thought-full reviews. Thoroughly enjoyed them.

Completely agree that the setlist was "masterful." I am extremely pleased with this setlist, considering the time allotment of an opener.

Annec, thanks for the reply. SO looking forward to seeing JB again. In my humble opinion, he's the headliner anyway. Cheers!

Hi Monknfud,

Glad you enjoyed me dancing...whoops...I meant the birds...hehe

Yes, James will do signings - usually somewhere in close proximity to the merch area between his set and Ed's. The line was very very long, but am impressed that many stayed despite missing the beginning of Ed's set. James will announce exactly which section he will be near during his set. (You might want to ask security in advance so you can scout how to get that spot as quickly as possible).

What a pity that he does not play his very catchpenny song "Postcards". It is very audience-grabbing, maybe much more than some of these slow sentimental love songs.
And it was such a good interaction with Ben and his ukulele. I miss it and I am sure many more.

This is a good interview but I'll forever be angry at the host for not having provided James any hairdresser services.

Last night was the 20th concert in North America, in Sacramento, California. Here's a nice set of photos, something that seems to become an exception. Loads of people are taking loads of pictures and videos during the concerts but most of the time, they are very poor quality.

Review & pictures: Oakland, California - August 2nd, 2017

http://www.shamelesspromo.net/the-artists/2017/8/3/ed-sheeran-dazzles-oakland-crowd-with-hit-after-hit-show-review

The show was opened with a spectacular opening set from England’s own James Blunt, another singer-songwriter with an impressive discography under his belt. He joked with the audience that he was “using them” to test out brand new material. He powered through each track with bravado and impressive stage presence. As the new material came to an end, he smiled and stated, “Okay, NOW we’ll play the song that you know.” He goes right into “You’re Beautiful”, a track that gained a significant amount of momentum in the United States when it debuted several years ago.

Small private acoustic session organized by Mix 94.1, Las Vegas, Nevada 04/08/2017

John & James performed 'Make Me Better', 'You're Beautiful' and 'OK'. Probably the most acoustic version of 'OK' that we've heard so far.

James performed 'OK' last night on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Given the huge audience of this show in the US, it will certainly have a significant impact. All the US shows with Ed Sheeran are sold out but it could benefit the album sales.

Nothing new for us in this interview but again, it's good for James' visibility in the States as US Weekly is a popular magazine widely distributed.

Concert Review - Staples Center, Los Angeles, California - Night #1 10/08/2017

Chris Willman, Music Writer
Variety (US)
August 11, 2017

http://variety.com/2017/music/news/ed-sheeran-concert-review-staples-los-angeles-1202524862/

As an opening act, Blunt addressed his place in things with good humor, announcing that “I’m gonna do one more you don’t know before the one you do know,” meaning, 2005’s “You’re Beautiful.” Considering the demographic, he quipped, “Realistically, I’m told that most of you here were conceived to it.” The way in which Blunt suddenly interrupts a long run of deeply sincere love songs with a bit of waggish humor or, yes, roguish sexuality reminds you of a certain someone. And then it hits you why he makes such an appropriate opening act: Blunt was Ed Sheeran before Ed Sheeran was Ed Sheeran.

This is a special photo taken by photographer Jared Polin at the Staples Center, Los Angeles, California – 11/08/2017

https://www.instagram.com/p/BXspYMflWH4/

The story behind the photo:

"About last night". I am sitting at the airport waiting to board my flight back to Philly this morning and wanted to share the story of this photo.

My personal project took me to the recording studio of @stephanmoccio an amazing person, musician, producer and more. I spent the better part of two days capturing images of him and the people who came through the studio to write and record.

Yesterday he had @jamesblunt in the studio along with @mozellamusic to start writing a new song. Stephan and Mozella wrote a little diddy called Wrecking Ball.

They were gracious enough to allow me to be in the room while they went through the process of creating a song and capture images.

See, it's a delicate dance as a photographer to capture the process in images but also know when to leave the room and give them space to focus. If you overstep at all, you will become a distraction from the process and most likely be asked to leave the room. I am very appreciative to everyone who was writing yesterday for allowing me to capture all the moments I captured.

James had to leave around 4 to get back to the staples center where he was opening for Ed Sheeran. As he was getting in the car to leave I asked if I would be able to shoot some candids of him prior to the show. Guess what, I ended up with a yes and found myself in the dressing room prior to the show. I huge thank you to the entire crew for helping me backstage and on stage.

Now to the photo you're looking at. I had all access to photograph James, from the pit to the stage. I've never shot James so I didn't know how his set was built. But when he asked everyone to light up the stadium I quickly went side stage then on stage to sneak between some lights, the keyboards and drums. When I looked up james was sitting at the piano right in front of me, spotlight shining strong in the top of the frame and thousands of phones lit up. WOW!!!! Nikon D5, Nikon 14-24 2.8 at 14mm.

Concert review: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA (Gigs were on July 11-12)
August 15, 2017

http://www.readingeagle.com/voices/article/concert-review-ed-sheeran-wows-at-wells-fargo-center

The concert began with a 10-song set by James Blunt, a singer-songwriter from England. Although I was not familiar with his music, I really enjoyed his performance.

His songs produce a vibe very similar to Sheeran's: edgy and catchy, yet heartfelt and serious.

Blunt did an amazing job at warming up the crowd, and left me excited and happy. Needless to say, I downloaded several of his songs in the days after the concert.
