repost my little review here

got the new album yesterday at Saturn here in Berlin.
They wanted to sell it fo 19.90 but I said it can't be possible as I heard from others that they get it for 15 , so they said it was a mistake and I payed 15, too.. strange thing.. [BigGrin]

I love the album.. the new songs are great.
But I have to say, that, like always, I love the live versions (on youtube) more.. and so I can hardly wait for the tour, ahhhhhhhhhhhh [w00t] [Smile]

My favourite songs for now are: If time is all i have, best laid plans, these are the words and I'll be your man [Smile]

But one thing, why on the back of the cd there's written 11. If time is all I have and then 13. Turn me on.
The number 12 doesn't exist on the back of the cd, there is just a little space between 11. and 13. where's nothing written [Ermm]
And when I listen to the Cd, Track 12 is an empty track with 5 seconds of nothing [Hehe]
Does anyone know why it's like that?
Billy? [Whistling]

The bonus tracks which I can listen too with the cd are Stay The Night and So Far Gone live at Metropolis. And I can download If time is all I have live.
Niiiice [Smile]

Does anybody remember the initial UK chart position of ATLS, in the first week of its release?  I didn't join the site until about Feb 08 and was impressed that it had gone up to number 8....then somebody told me it had previously been number 1.  I'm just wondering what position SKOT will reach by next Sunday - I'd love to hear what our long standing members think/predict about this.   Is there a gut feeling that it will do really well and go straight into the top 10 or will it be a slow burner?

I can't honestly remember W'fan but i'm hoping it will do well, obviously, but i do think there is a lack of advertisement on TV for it, well i say lack, it's non existent!! ATLS was on every commercial break before, people would comment to me that they didn't realise that he had a new album out, well they definitely won't know this time will they? I try to spread the word as much as i can but that's not the same as a TV commercial is it?

Funny you should mention that...I saw an ad for it the first time this evening, during the ad break on the X Factor Results Show.

My husband groaned, saying "Oh God, he's EVERYWHERE this week, flogging that new album of his!" and I said "Well, they all do the same thing when they have an album coming out...you can't blame them, it's business."

(In fact I think the whole Robbie/Gary Barlow single was much more heavily marketed than any music of James has ever been - talk about overkill, and now they're banging on about the Take That reunion tour and album...I'm tired of it already.)

Oo that's interesting Sine! - Have you played it in a CD player or was it through the computer? You could try playing it in different places, see if it works!

I wonder if you can rewind track 13? When you load it on the computer, instead of opening it up through a player like iTunes/Windows Media Player - you could try going through 'My Computer' on yor desktop. In the CD drive you should find the disc and when you open it, it should have a list of tracks laid out like file names, maybe it's there?

Or something.. LOL - Good Luck anyway! Curious..

I may be biased but I think this is his best album so far...
On a dark grey November day with much crap happening in the world and in the lives of all of us, this album is the best remedy...
Do I need to give favourites already?

Dangerous
No tears (yes tears for me, the lyrics just hit me real hard)
These are the words
Turn me on
So far gone
Best laid plans...

etc etc etc. the whole album basically.
Fantastic.

Fantastic.

12 is an empty track so 13. with Turn Me On stand a bit extra from the other songs...James said, that his record lable didn't really want it on the album, but he wanted it on there... hence the "gap"

SKOT is Radio 2's Album Of The Week which is excellent as it will get plenty of airplay and give listeners an opportunity to hear more of the new songs, and then go and buy the album!

sad to say i'm disappointed with SKOT

it seems lightweight compared with BTB and some of ALTS

after a few plays i went BTB for comparison

BTB still takes my breath away with the depth of emotion/meaning

SKOT, though pleasant on the ear, does not

will persevere though - maybe i'm missing something here

I like the new album, i like the fact there are a few upbeat songs on there . I do think some of the lyrics are not quite up to James usual high standard (i am not too keen on heart of gold) but do you think it might be because of the way they wrote them which was to just turn up in the studio and work on ideas ? Back to Bedlam was probably years and years of James thoughts and emotions so he really had things he wanted to say and express. Don't they say tortured souls make the best music?

Following on from James' last tweet saying he is No.1 in the ITunes Chart - I have looked at the ITunes Rock Album Charts and James is No.1 in 11 countries woo hoo

The countries are:

UK

France

Germany

Austria

Belgium

Canada

Italy

Luxembourg

Netherlands

Spain

Switzerland

That is such brilliant news and James must be so so happy with that.  Well done!!

I agree sheep, he's definitely moving away from his old style, and personally I'd much rather he moved away from the commercial rather than towards it, which I feel he has done.

Some of the lyrics are not up to his usual standard, "Californ-eye-aye" being a current pet peeve...

However I do really like some songs, particularly These Are The Words and Best Laid Plans.

I got the special edition 29.99 one, and I'm loving the book, with the photos at the end
